YALUK LANGA – INDIGENOUS GARDEN

The Yaluk Langa project at the Heide Museum of Modern Art is a collaborative indigenous garden initiative developed with the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people. It honors the cultural significance of the Birrarung/Yarra River and aims to create a culturally safe space for education, ceremony, and reconciliation. The project rehabilitates and transforms the riverfront into diverse experiential zones, highlighting the area’s indigenous flora and the Wurundjeri’s traditional practices. Ongoing efforts include revegetation, tree-scarring ceremonies, and developing community programs.
